Waste Management in Unley

The KESAB Annual Breakfast on 4 November 2020 at which the Hon. David Speirs, Minister for Environment and Water spoke, highlighted the excellent waste management activities and outcomes achieved by the Unley City Council.

170 tons of landfill is currently generated by the Unley City of Unley each year compared to 206 across metropolitan Adelaide. Since 2016-17 there has been a reduction in landfill waste of 15%/person/year (refer pdf attached). This is a testament to our residents and Council run waste management programs that has resulted in greater redirection of green waste into the compostable waste stream.

Programs currently in place to promote the redirection of green waste away from the landfill stream include the grant funded Green Industries SA (GISA) program and the weekly organics trial in Goodwood.

A free kitchen caddy and compostable liners, as well as a 'how-to' brochure, are being provided to every household across the City of Unley from 20 October through to November 2020.

The weekly organics trial in Goodwood will commence on 2 November and end in May 2021, and will cover a dedicated area of about 500 households and 40 businesses in Goodwood.

All of this information is live on the Unley City Council website: yoursay.unley.sa.gov.au/kitchen-caddy AND yoursay.unley.sa.gov.au/green-in-goodwood.
