About Local Government
Local government is the third tier of the Australian system of government. The relationship between the state and local government is guided by the State-Local Government Relations Agreement, which underpins a functional relationship with State Government departments to plan, fund and deliver services to the community.
The local government legal framework is governed by, amongst other legal requirements, the Local Government Act 1999, the Code of Conduct for council members.
The principle role of council is to govern and manage the local area, provide public services, act as a representative and informed decision maker, and act in the interests of the community.
My role on council, as an elected member, is to represent the interests of residents and ratepayers, provide community leadership and guidance, and facilitate communication between the community and the council.
The community decides who will represent them through Local Government elections held every four years. My term as an elected member commenced on 19 November 2018 having been elected unopposed along with co-councillor, Michael Rabbitt.
