Council Decisions (June 2020)

Weller Street upgrade

It was pleasing to see that a previous 2018 decision by Council to upgrade the Weller Street bike route and introduce traffic calming measures was unanimously upheld at the June Council meeting. The works will proceed imminently.

Ecologically sustainable development

Consequent on my motion on notice, Council will write to the Minister for Environment and Water, the Hon David Speirs MP, regarding concerns about the State government focus on a greener Adelaide through the Landscape South Australia Act, which is inconsistent with the State government draft Planning and Design Code. Clarification will be requested regarding the mechanisms by which these inconsistencies will be addressed.

Artificial turf ban on Council verges

Consequent on my motion on notice, the Nature Strip Policy will be reviewed to incorporate a ban on artificial turf placed on Council verges. Artificial turf retains heat more than any other surface (2018 heat mapping study) and is not recyclable. Other Councils have taken steps to ban this material.
